When we uncage our feet, maps redraw themselves.
Skin—thin antennae—tunes to gravel, dew, and grain;
rain commits a firmware patch to our gait,
rebases posture, merges the branch called asphalt
with the old loam trunk. The streets remember—
soft ledgers of heat coin our wandering,
tar and sun-baked paint counting in microfractures,
hairline hieroglyphs, the friction of noon.
Our soles read numbers no shoe can parse,
and the city, surprised, lowers its voice.
The curb loosens into verge, verge into understory.
We shake hands with moss, negotiate root and rock.
Beneath the leaf-litter, the undernet pings;
arches answer like routers, routing wonder
across a fern-green mesh. Breath becomes syntax.
We debug balance on a fallen log,
mud etching stack traces on our heels.
Proprioception compiles; the wind runs unit cases
against our patience until swaying passes tests,
and we push to main with a steadier spine.
Then shore. Aye, matey—salt on the lip, tide in the lung—
the deck slick with brine and rumor.
We learn the grammar of sway, the clause of rope,
and the ocean signs its name through our footprints.
After the roar, winter pronounces the hush.
Snow crackles like low-bit audio;
we adjust gain, not volume, until silence
renders the world in lossless white,
and each step prints a slow constellation,
a cold astronomy of weight and will.
Spring rethreads us back through plazas.
Cities loosen their collars: dusk rolls out
dance patches where hello has low latency,
laughter caches warm between strangers.
Water in gutters forks into galaxies—
childhood returns with version control.
We branch, we splash, we merge without tickets;
falling is recognized as a feature of flight,
and no one files a bug against joy.
Miles later, our walking remembers us.
Distance becomes a conversation,
skin the honest protocol—no encryption,
only trust and careful pace. Workshops open:
ceramicists, carpenters, coders at standing desks—
we let contact teach tolerances,
measure with the nerve’s micrometer,
tune by the hum beneath the floorboards.
Rivers annotate with chill; deserts lacquer days in salt.
We accept the pull request from gravity;
our hearts are finally forked to earth.
Sometime ahead—after boots, after speed—
we take the future’s face in both feet
and step without armor. Not to conquer,
but to listen. To log the world in the clear
handwriting of skin. If anyone asks
what time invented, we’ll point to a faint path
of heat and dew and say: here—this archive,
this braid of pressures and pauses,
this ledger that remembers us back.
Walk on, Captain, into plural dawns:
gardens that debug hunger, squares that compile song,
workshops where the floor teaches the hand.
Barefoot, we consent to mutual read/write with the ground,
and the future—grinning like a tide-pool pirate—whispers:
keep sensing, keep sailing, keep learning—
always open, never fully shod.
