Logan Gears Up for Its Biggest Maker Fair Yet

Creativity, curiosity, and a whole lot of cardboard are about to take over the Riverton Community Center as the town prepares for its annual Riverton Maker Fair, scheduled for next Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Organizers say this year’s event will be the largest yet, featuring more than 60 booths of homegrown inventors, artists, tinkerers, and tech enthusiasts. “We like to call it a science fair, art show, and garage workshop all rolled into one,” said event coordinator Lila Moreno, who has been overseeing the fair since its launch in 2016. “Every year, people surprise us with what they build — last year someone brought a fully functional, remote-controlled pancake flipper.” Attendees can expect a vibrant lineup of exhibits, including: Robotics demos from the Riverton High Tech Club, featuring this year’s competition bot “Clank,” which can reportedly sort tennis balls by emotional energy (results pending). DIY crafts for all ages, from hand-knit wearable art to 3D-printed keychains. The “Upcycle Arena,” where creators show off impressive projects made from recycled materials — highlights rumored to include a bookshelf made entirely from old skateboards and a lamp crafted from unused takeout utensils. Live build challenges, where participants have one hour to make something useful out of a mystery box of spare parts. Judges say last year's top entry, a “self-watering plant buddy,” is still somehow functioning. Food trucks will line the west parking lot, offering everything from classic grilled cheese to nitrogen-chilled sorbet. The local library’s “Tool Lending Library” will also debut new equipment available for checkout, including sewing machines and a surprisingly popular soldering kit.
